2nd hour math: today we took the Chapter 12 test with no homework given.
5th hour math: Redo quizzes for 10.4-10.6 tomorrow at the beginning of the hour. Worked on rotational symmetry and angle of rotation. Homework for tomorrow is 10.7 1-16 page 521. Test on Thursday April 29!!
Science: today we finished up our experiment to determine whether sand or water heated up quicker. Kids went outside and conducted the experiment. Tomorrow we will finish up on the activity. Question of the day: Name the city, state, and temperature for the coldest place in the US.
Also, today in Science class I gave kids an opportunity to go on a field trip. The field trip is a boat trip in Muskegon Lake and Lake Michigan. Kids will be collecting water samples and analyzing them with a crew from Grand Valley: W. G. Jackson Research Vessel. The trip is on May 14th from 8:15-1:00 or so. The cost is $10 per student. Kids will be getting wet, probably cold, and be working hard. They are required to write me a letter telling me why they should be chosen to go on the trip. If you have questions, please contact me.

Today in all classes was Reverse Job Shadow Day. Your students were able to see presenters from our community and the Grand Rapids area in each of their classes today. There were many different professions kids were acquainted with over the course of the day. Talk with your kids about their day today...I hope they were able to learn something for their speakers.
If anyone would like to volunteer for Reverse Job Shadow Day for next year, please let me know. I am in charge of it:)
2nd hour Math has a test on Monday over 12.1-12.5!

Wednesday April 21
So sorry I haven't updated my blog lately. I have a sick 2 year old at home right now.
2nd Hour Math: We have a test over Ch. 12 tomorrow. Homework for today was 9-19 Ch. Review then Chapter Test, however, I don't remember all the problems I assigned. Sorry!
5th hour Math: students took a math quiz today over 10.4-10.6. They will redo their quizzes tomorrow or on Monday depending on how many students we have missing tomorrow.
Science: we worked on a new lesson today. We are setting up an experiment to see whether water or land heats differently and then whether water or land cools differently. We discussed a little bit of the experiment today and will continue it on Monday.
Tomorrow is EARTH DAY! What are you doing to help the EARTH????

2nd Hour Math: today kids learned about box and whisker plots. There are 5 different parts kids need to be able to find, median, upper quartile, lower quartile, maximum value, minimum value. Homework for today was a purple worksheet on 12.2.
5th hour Math: took a quiz today over Sections 10.1-10.3 No homework tonight.
Science: we started making graphs today in class on the data we collect on GR monthly temperatures and precipitation.
Graphs needed to be turned in tomorrow:
1. Line graph with monthly high temps and monthly low temps
2. Bar graph of precipitation amounts for each month.
Both of these graphs are due tomorrow when the kids walk in the door.
I only have two people who responded to my question from Monday about Weather...

2nd Hour Math: we worked with frequency tables, line plots and histograms today. Homework was 1-18 page 638
5th Hour Math: we started figuring out the slope of lines today. We also had to plot points on graphs and then figure out the slopes of the lines. Homework was 1-16 page 500 and Check Point Quiz page 503 1-10
Science: we started a new activity today called Investigating local weather. We collected data from GR, 2009 weather per month. They were hanging around the room and the kids need to gather the data on a chart and put in their notebook. We are also collecting daily weather from Wood TV 8 site for 5 days. We started that yesterday. My data charts are located on the bulletin board in the front of my room if kids are missing information. Kids also had to finish Analysis questions 1,3,4 from Activity 50.

Tuesday April 13
2nd Hour Math: today students learned about Special Right Triangles and the formulas to figure out missing side lengths. We worked with 45-45-90 and 30-60-90 triangles. There were two ways you could figure out the side lengths: Pythagorean Theorem and Triangle Special Rules. Homework today is 1-11, 15-17 page 611.
5th Hour Math: kids played homemade Battleship today. They loved it! We then started on Graphing Linear Equations. Homework is 1-33 page 493.
Science: students finished up the text rendering information on tornadoes and hurricanes. Then we read some information in our text and did a disagree/agree activity.
Reminder: Question from yesterday has only one person answering it!!!

Monday April 12
2nd hour Math: Today we did some quick review over information in Section 11.4. They received a salmon colored worksheet, one section is review and then 11.5 is new material. 11.5, I asked them to read through the section and try to figure out 11.5 but if they can't we are going over it tomorrow.
5th hour Math: Today we started making and using Coordinate Planes. The kids made some graphs and labeled the different parts of coordinate planes. Everyone seemed to understand the point of plotting points on the coordinate plane. Homework for tonight is 1-23, 25 and 38 page 488.
Science: today we started our final unit on Weather! We started off making a poster of words related to weather. Then started filling out our notebooks. Activity we started today was called Text Rendering: Text rendering is way to pick out important sentences, phrases, and words within a reading selection. We will continue on it tomorrow during class.
The first three people in each science class who can answer this question get a prize: What is the name of the city/state where the most tropical storms/hurricane prone area is? E-mail me with your answer and your name: ktemplar@nvps.net
